Bogmalo Beach Resort and Casino Pearl in the Eye of a Major Corruption Storm in Goa

Subsequent to a press conference held in Panaji yesterday regarding an illegal Casino being operated without license at Bogmalo, a reliable source in the Goa Home Dept told IndyaWire.com that some senior officials in the Home department were hand-in-glove with Casino operators and one senior official of the rank of secretary in the Home Department, which is incidentally headed by Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar was getting huge regular bribes.
The concerned official was having an extra-marital affair and has been blowing up huge amounts of bribe money and other gifts obtained from the Casino operators on women.
Further, the Vasco police who have acknowledged the complaint filed by a social activist regarding expiry of licenses granted to Casino Pearl operated out of Bogmalo Beach Resort, expressed their helplessness in the matter. Goa does not have any separate authority vis-a-vis gambling and casinos and the same is handled by the home dept.
Sources told IndyaWire.com that the Vasco police said their hands are tied in the matter as the home dept has the final say and the illegal Casino was operating with the knowledge of the home dept officials. A senior police official told this reporter on condition of anonymity – “if they (the home dept) do not want to do anything about it, what can we do? Our hands are tied. There are instructions from the home department not to harass casino operators. You must speak to the CM about this matter (Casino Pearl expired license issue).
Further, IndyaWire.com has learnt a senior BJP MLA and his family either own a stake in the Bogmalo Beach Resort and Casino Pearl or have financial dealings with the property owners and Casino operator. Not surprisingly, the Goa government is hesitant to take action against the errant Casino.
